Pre-safari preparation
With your own private guide from start to finish, you begin the safari in the Northern Panhandle of the Okavango at Shakawe or Sepopa, and for your journey through the Delta to Maun, you stay on small uninhabited islands each night.
It is a voyage of discovery through the papyrus-lined channels, open lagoons and floodplains that make up the Okavango. As you move through the delta, you can do as much or little as you please; from an early morning or evening’s fishing, to a midday session with your book, or an afternoon’s siesta whilst the boat is driven on down the waterways, you will feel like the only people for miles and miles around – and you will be!
This is the ideal trip for those looking for something a little different from the Okavango, and although not an exclusively wildlife-based trip, it is a fantastic way of gaining a perspective on the Okavango Delta that very few people in the world ever have – by crossing it from start to finish. You will be afforded the chance to see hippos and crocodiles, birds and frogs, as well as having a go at catching your dinner for the evening, fresh from the water, under the direction of your fishing guide.
The Trans-Okavango is a fully catered and staffed operation with experienced, interesting and highly engaging guides and staff, who will make this an unforgettable experience.
Upon your arrival in Maun, anywhere from 5 to 7 days later, you will be accommodated for the night before either going on to the next stage of your safari or heading back home with memories that will last a lifetime.
